Welcome to 2016 from the OSU

I would like to let all Old Sydneians know that we have started the year with a positive and harmonious relationship with the School. I thank the Headmaster for his offering of support. I know we all look forward to a constructive time working closely with the School to achieve our mutual objectives. As a small start we held our first meeting of the Committee for the year at the School and we have changed our registered office and principal place of business to Sydney Grammar School College St.

On behalf of the OSU I would like to welcome our latest Life Member and OSU Scholar – Noah Cass. Noah is currently in Year 12 and has been selected as the OSU Scholar for 2015. Noah has shown an impressive blend of academic, sporting and community contribution achievements. The OSU Scholarship provides funds for Noah to explore some of these interests after the HSC, early days but we do wish him well in this final year. I must add congratulations from his very proud Grandfather, an Old Sydneian.

The Annual Meeting of the OSU last year elected a broad range of Old Sydneians’ to the Committee as noted below. From my perspective this shows the enduring support for the OSU and the School across many generations. We have a lot to look forward to with such an energetic and committed group of people

Briefly, my connection with the School started with my father attending Edgecliff Preparatory School with Miss Van and then going on the College St, rather than Parramatta as my uncle did. I started at the new Sydney Grammar Edgecliff Preparatory School and then College St, leaving in 1969. Since then I have had 2 sons and now also a grandson attend the School, so Sydney Grammar is in my blood.

The OSU is totally committed to supporting the School, and the core of this is our role in maintaining and building the community of Old Sydneians’. An example of this has been our mentoring program for Old Sydneians’. With the first year of our Mentoring Programme behind us we would value your feedback by completing the short questionnaire on our website via the following link http://www.osu.com.au/grammar/mentor-survey-2016/

I must add my thanks Wendy Scotter for setting up our first committee meeting and for her ongoing bond and support for Old Sydneians.

Much more will be said over the next year about the achievements of Dr Vallance as Headmaster as he has announced he will be retiring from the role in 2017. On behalf of the OSU I would pass on my congratulations to the Headmaster for all he has achieved and wish him well in his after-School life.

As a final comment, the Headmaster said he wanted all Old Sydneians to understand that they do not peak at the HSC, but should be peaking at 75, I took great comfort in this and will work hard on peaking in 12 or so years’ time.
